Despite our drive to deliver familiar SQL-like interfaces for today’s development communities, at GenieDB’s heart is a highly optimised directly accessible NoSQL datastore, upon which our replicated database technology is built.

We recognised the scaleout potential of NoSQL several years ago, as an embryonic technology with a market waiting to boom. Our prototype datastore was originally developed for one of our big start-up clients developing a high demand social network and profiling tool.

Through the growth of many of our own web businesses and our start-up clients’ successes, scaling the web efficiently and cost effectively meant building on back end systems that made far better use utilisation of traditional or on-demand cloud infrastructure, and the administrators looking after them.

Extensive research and lab testing have proved highly promising. On commodity hardware a single GenieDB node is capable of delivering tens of thousands of read requests per second and an order of magnitude improvement in read and write performance over industry leading SQL databases - and more importantly GenieDB’s inherent datastore performance scales out, simply and linearly, for greater performance and resilience.

We have produced more than just a simple Key Value datastore. Our product vision is to make such efficient new technologies accessbile to the majority by combining them with current platforms, either for migration or to gain the benefits of both worlds.
